Magnets & Magnetic Separation in Mining

img

If you are in the mining industry or somehow relate to the process, you will know what I’m talking about and you’ll back me up if I say that separating unwanted material is the toughest part in mining job, unless the contamination and the extractable material keeps their own state of matter. But in most cases, they don’t. So, from the very beginning, miners needed to adopt newer and efficient ways to separate the contamination until magnets and powerful magnetic machineries or tools were brought to the aid. Nowadays, the best way to separate contamination in mining is using magnets and the process is called magnetic separation.

Magnet don’t only help in carrying the metal but also help in separating them from Aluminium and other debris after it shredding. So, it’s safe to say that without the help of magnets, we would still be using the traditional cranes to pull the massive metal bodies and we would be manually separating the steel from other substances after shredding.

Types and Uses for a Magnet

A magnet is an object or a material that produces a magnetic field. That magnetic field repels an object with the same magnetic field or attracts an object with an opposite magnetic field. A magnet can also attract ferromagnetic objects or materials such as iron and other metals. A magnets strength is measured by the amount of weight it can pull or its magnetism.
